Take a break from your regular programming to focus on my obsession
I don’t know when it began, my love of all things pretzel. Probably when I first came to Germany at the age of 14, but maybe before that…when eating snack pretzels as a child? Remember those bags of little cheap, dry, salty pretzels that came in our lunches or were packed as snacks for outings? Always good to have some simple carbs on hand.
Whatever the reason, I am passionate about pretzels. I notice them everywhere. I associate them with deliciousness and traveling because I see them in the bakeries that are literally everywhere in Germany. And of course, also at train stations. You could be in the smallest village, and there will be a bakery near the train station. Or the biggest train stations, where there will more than one even of every bakery chain in Germany: Le Crobag, (French), Steinecke, Thoben, Ditsch, Kamps, Back-Factory, Bäcker Wiedermann, Wiener Feinbäckerei…and on and on.
